  • Intro to Animal Science

    Do you feed your pet the best food? How do you know? What are some ways to restrain my pet if they get hurt? Pets are a major component of most families in our community and across the country. The pet industry is a $72 billion industry in the United States and offers a variety of careers from a veterinarian to a nutritionist, breeder, or care giver. In this course, we will learn some basic hands-on animal restraints, health care procedures (vaccinations, sutures, and nail trimming), and some basics about animal nutrition and diets. Instructor bio: Robin Tidd is one of the Agriculture, Food, and Natural Resource teachers at Mankato Area Public Schools. She received her degree in Agriculture Education from the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities. At Mankato Area Public Schools she teaches courses relating to animal science, plant science, food science and natural resources.
  • Intro to Digital Art!

    Dive into the captivating world of creativity and technology at our Intro to Digital Art summer camp! This immersive three-day program combines hands-on learning with engaging digital tools, offering a dynamic journey into digital art. Students will explore the fundamentals of digital drawing and apply what they learn to an exciting real world application. Through a partnership with No Grit No Pearl, students will be able to get their favorite design printed on a canvas or t-shirt which will get shipped to their house after the camp! Intro to Digital Art is the perfect blend of fun, skill development, and boundless imagination, providing young artists with the tools and confidence to bring their visions to life. No prior experience needed! The address of the person enrolling students will be used to mail the finished T-shirt or Canvas, be sure your address is up to date! This camp is presented by COR Robotics. The mission of COR Robotics is to inspire a passion for robotics in students, with the hope that the student will participate in their local FIRST programs, and further develop a passion for STEM fields/robotics.
  • Intro to Tap Dance (Youth)

    Introduction to Tap Dance is for students ages 9-13 who would like to explore tap dance in a low-key and fun environment. You will learn basic techniques and explore rhythms and music through tap dance. Try a American dance form grounded in musicality and rhythm. Think of this class as drumming, but with your feet. Students will learn a warm up, practice short exercises to help them learn basic steps, and will also learn a short combination to music. They will also get the chance to explore tap dance through improvising, or making up their own rhythms, to music. The class will be focused on having fun and connecting to fellow classmates through dancing together. Tap shoes will not be worn, wear comfortable shoes and clothes, and bring a bottle of water.
  • Intro to Vet Science

    Animals play an important role in many people's lives and it is important that we know how to care for them. This 3 day course will be hands-on to learn skills including how to give injections, suturing, basic wound care, and how to check for vital signs. Whether you are interested in a career with animals or learning more about caring for them, this course is for you!   • Lancer Cadets: Marching Band Camp Grades 7 + 8

    Students enrolled in Lancer Cadets will have fun as they learn marching and music fundamentals and work toward an end-of-week performance. Participants will also be invited to perform with the Mankato 77 Lancers at a performance this fall! We have openings in percussion, woodwind, brass, and colorguard sections.
  • Leather Stamping - Bracelets

    This course introduces students to the joy of working with leather. Leather stamping dies are used to put designs, letters and pictures on leather items. Tools and supplies are provided and the students take home practice pieces, a picture, and a bracelet that can be further decorated with markers or paint once the item dries.

    Introduction to Water Skills Must be at least 6 years old. Introduces basic aquatic skills, which continue to be built upon throughout Learn-to-Swim levels.     Refine strokes so participants can swim them with greater efficiency and effectiveness over longer distances. Students will learn to assess and improve their fitness with swimming. Utilizing various pieces of equipment, students will be able to improve their swimming ability. Completion of Level 5 or advance knowledge of all swimming strokes (front crawl, back crawl, breaststroke, and butterfly) required.

    Take me out to the ball game! Come enjoy an afternoon of outdoor baseball by joining us for a trip to Target Field to watch the Minnesota Twins play Kansas City! The game starts at 12:10 pm. Departures - 9:30 am depart WOW Zone parking lot, 9:45 am depart St. Peter Community Center. Arrivals - 6:45 pm arrive at St. Peter Community Center, 7:00 pm arrive at WOW Zone parking lot.     MAKING ANIME ART CLUB (Focus of the club is on the creation of Anime inspired art) Emphasis on creating Anime inspired art & craft, character and book discussions. Limited exposure to videos and series. MEETING DAY- MONDAYS LOCATION - Dakota Meadows Middle School Each club has limited enrollment, so register EARLY if you intend to participate. ABOUT MIDDLE SCHOOL AFTER SCHOOL Middle School After School Clubs meet after school (when classes are in session). Most clubs meet one day per week. There are exceptions such as parent teacher conferences or days when after school programming is cancelled due to weather other unforeseen circumstances. When changes are made to the original schedule, the Mankato Community Education office will communicate with parents via text or email, so please be certain that your payer account stays updated with accurate email and phone contact information. HOW MANY DAYS PER WEEK CAN I ATTEND MSAS? During the 2023-24 school year, Middle School After School will be open at Prairie Winds and Dakota Meadows Middle Schools from 3:25 - 5:00 pm on Monday, Tuesday & Thursday afternoons. No programming on Wednesday or Friday. You should attend MSAS on the day(s) your club(s) are in session. You may also attend MSAS on the day(s) you are not enrolled in a club but want to stay after school to wait for a ride. We call this time (outside of your club time) "Student Union." During Student Union you can work on homework, use games activities provided by the program, and hang out with friends. Only authorized computer games (shooter games prohibited) and authorized, age appropriate content will be allowed on cell phones or devices during MSAS. WHO CAN ENROLL IN MIDDLE SCHOOL AFTER SCHOOL? Middle School After School is open to students in grades 6-8, attending Prairie Winds or Dakota Meadows Middle Schools. You must be registered for AT LEAST 1 club to use the Student Union on Monday, Tuesday or Thursday. You must be registered BEFORE attending clubs. Registration is only done through the Community Education Office, not the middle school. Call the Mankato Community Education Office for registration assistance at 507-387-5501. WHERE TO REPORT Immediately after the final bell of the school day, students enrolled in Middle School After School should report to the cafeteria. You should report to MSAS with EVERYTHING you need for clubs or to take home. This includes jackets, chromebooks, homework, cell phones, band / orchestra instruments or any personal items. You WILL NOT be able to go to your locker after 3:30 pm when the academic wings are locked There will be a sign indicating the check in area and MSAS site supervisors will be ready to distribute a snack and take attendance. From 3:25 - 3:45 pm, students will be in the cafeteria having a snack, visiting with friends, and unwinding from the school day. Site Supervisors will have board games or art supplies available for student use. Youth can also use this time to complete homework. This is also time when students can locate their teachers for questions or to make up work from the school day. Check in with MSAS Site Supervisors before locating your classroom teacher. TRANSPORTATION HOME Clubs begin at 3:45 pm and end at 5:00 pm. Transportation is not available. Parents / Guardians must arrange for pick up at 5:00 pm. All youth participating in the Middle School After School Student Union or Clubs should report to the cafeteria immediately after the final bell of the day for a snack and check in with staff. Site Supervisors will assure students are directed to the right location for their club or have proper supervision and age appropriate activity until picked up. SAFETY & CONDUCT We ask that any student enrolled in Middle School After School be prepared to follow school day rules for conduct as well as any COVID mitigation guidelines including but not limited to: staying home when you are ill and following CDC guidelines when you test positive for COVID.   • Mankato East Boys Elementary Basketball Camp

    Campers will learn how to shoot the ball properly, handle the ball, pass to open teammates and compete in different drills. They will learn how fun the game can be. This will get them excited about playing and hopefully encourage them to want to get better. Please bring gym shoes and a water bottle.
  • Mankato East Boys High School Basketball Workouts

    During the summer months Mankato East Boys' Basketball players will work on individual offensive and defensive skills as well as learn and understand team concepts that we will use at Mankato East as well. Workouts are from 9:30 - 11:30 am and weightlifting from 11:30 am - 12:30 pm. No lifting June 17 - 20th.

    This week of camp will stress offensive basketball skills both individually and as a teammate. 1 on 1 moves and games of 3 on 3 and 5 on 5 will be played along with the teaching of shooting, ball handling, passing, and rebounding skills and techniques. Students will learn from Mankato East High School coaches and players.
  • Mankato East Boys Speed and Strength

    This program is designed to enhance the overall athleticism of those who participate. Focus will be placed on developing maximum speed and functional strength through sprint training, plyometric training, and strength training. Participants will be able to track their own progress throughout the program.
  • Mankato East Volleyball Camp

    This camp is designed to help introduce and provide a time to practice serving, passing, and hitting a volleyball through fun drills and playing the game for beginners and review and enhance those skills for intermediate and advanced players. Coach's bio: Dan Blasl is the head coach for the Mankato East Cougars. Dan has coached volleyball for 17 years. Coach Blasl's experience has given him experience in all levels of volleyball. That experience ranges from elementary to high school.
