"Footloose" and “Bootscootin’ Boogie” Line dance 101 This course aims to provide the student with a basic skill level and knowledge of line dancing to “Footloose” by Blake Shelton and “Boot Scootin’ Boogie” by Brooks and Dunn. Principles, techniques, safe practices, and the proposed line dances will be taught throughout the course. As a result of the class, the student will be able to participate in recreational line dancing as a lifelong activity successfully and will improve his/her general physical fitness and skill performance. This class will teach students the steps involved and will slowly combine them to allow students to put them all together.

Adult tennis drills and games has become a worldwide, fun group activity for adults featuring tennis drills to give players of ALL abilities an ultimate, high-energy workout while improving their tennis ability. The session includes a warmup, hitting drill technique sequence, and group games/match play to end each session. This program will elevate a person’s heart rate into the aerobic zone and burn some calories too! NO EXPERIENCE NECESSARY! The instructor will accommodate all ability levels – this includes beginners! New and previous participants will walk away with increased knowledge of the game of tennis. If you are looking for a great way to get in shape, burn some calories, meet new people, and hit live tennis balls, just give this a try already! American Indian Life Skills Development & Cultural Activities is an opportunity available to any student interested in learning about the Amerian Indian Culture. Course is taught by Megan Schnitker & Lydia Larson. This is a FREE program made possible by the Mahkato Revitalization Project and funded by Build & Believe Afterschool Grant from Ignite, Youthprise, & MDE in partnership with MAPS / isd77.

CLUB NAME - ART CLUB ABOUT MIDDLE SCHOOL AFTER SCHOOL Middle School After School Clubs meet after school (when classes are in session). Most clubs meet one day per week. There are exceptions such as parent teacher conferences or days when after school programming is cancelled due to weather other unforeseen circumstances. When changes are made to the original schedule, the Mankato Community Education office will communicate with parents via text or email, so please be certain that your payer account stays updated with accurate email and phone contact information. HOW MANY DAYS PER WEEK CAN I ATTEND MSAS? During the 2023-24 school year, Middle School After School will be open at Prairie Winds and Dakota Meadows Middle Schools from 3:25 - 5:00 pm on Monday, Tuesday & Thursday afternoons. No programming on Wednesday or Friday. You should attend MSAS on the day(s) your club(s) are in session. You may also attend MSAS on the day(s) you are not enrolled in a club but want to stay after school to wait for a ride. We call this time (outside of your club time) "Student Union." During Student Union you can work on homework, use games activities provided by the program, and hang out with friends. Only authorized computer games (shooter games prohibited) and authorized, age appropriate content will be allowed on cell phones or devices during MSAS. WHO CAN ENROLL IN MIDDLE SCHOOL AFTER SCHOOL? Middle School After School is open to students in grades 6-8, attending Prairie Winds or Dakota Meadows Middle Schools. You must be registered for AT LEAST 1 club to use the Student Union on Monday, Tuesday or Thursday. You must be registered BEFORE attending clubs. Registration is only done through the Community Education Office, not the middle school. Call the Mankato Community Education Office for registration assistance at 507-387-5501. WHERE TO REPORT Immediately after the final bell of the school day, students enrolled in Middle School After School should report to the cafeteria. You should report to MSAS with EVERYTHING you need for clubs or to take home. This includes jackets, chromebooks, homework, cell phones, band / orchestra instruments or any personal items. You WILL NOT be able to go to your locker after 3:30 pm when the academic wings are locked There will be a sign indicating the check in area and MSAS site supervisors will be ready to distribute a snack and take attendance. From 3:25 - 3:45 pm, students will be in the cafeteria having a snack, visiting with friends, and unwinding from the school day. Site Supervisors will have board games or art supplies available for student use. Youth can also use this time to complete homework. This is also time when students can locate their teachers for questions or to make up work from the school day. Check in with MSAS Site Supervisors before locating your classroom teacher. TRANSPORTATION HOME Clubs begin at 3:45 pm and end at 5:00 pm. Transportation is not available. Parents / Guardians must arrange for pick up at 5:00 pm. All youth participating in the Middle School After School Student Union or Clubs should report to the cafeteria immediately after the final bell of the day for a snack and check in with staff. Site Supervisors will assure students are directed to the right location for their club or have proper supervision and age appropriate activity until picked up. SAFETY & CONDUCT We ask that any student enrolled in Middle School After School be prepared to follow school day rules for conduct as well as any COVID mitigation guidelines including but not limited to: staying home when you are ill and following CDC guidelines when you test positive for COVID. Learn the art of hand tinting black and white photographs using soft pastels chalk. You will receive a black and white photo and work with soft pastels to add your own flavor and imagination to bringing the photo to life, producing a frameable work of art. The instructor will provide directions, technique hints, and advice to students to complete their project.

BEGINNING ORCHESTRA PRAIRIE WINDS MIDDLE SCHOOL ALL INSTRUMENTS (VIOLIN, CELLO, BASS, VIOLA) 5:30-7:30 PM (MONDAY - FRIDAY) - ORCHESTRA ROOM GET A JUMP ON YOUR NEW INSTRUMENT MAPS Staff 5 sessions In five daily sessions learn how to get started on your orchestra instrument safely and correctly before school begins. Intended for students entering 6th grade or attending Orchestra for the first time at PWMS. Emphasis will be on the beginning elements of playing your instrument and learning how to care for it properly. Students need to arrive at camp with their instrument and Sound Innovations: Book 1, for each instrument. Parents are strongly encouraged to reserve this week for summer lessons if you plan on enrolling your student in Orchestra in Fall 2024. Lesson week is only for students enrolling in Orchestra at Prairie Winds Middle School. Attend lesson week at the school you are attending this Fall.
