Adult & Child Introduction To Ceramics

Cups, bowls, vases, hand sculptures oh my! This introductory class is designed to build the foundations for ceramic wheel throwing and hand building techniques. Learn how to form, trim, glaze works with your own two hands! This is a course custom designed for adults and youth who would like to learn the art of ceramics together! The price of the course is based on a child attending the class with an adult and the 2 learning this skill together.

Intended for students entering 6th grade or attending Band for the first time at PWMS. Emphasis will be on the beginning elements of playing your instrument and learning how to care for it properly. Students need to arrive at camp with their instrument and Sound Innovations: Book 1, for each instrument. Parents are strongly encouraged to reserve this week for summer lessons if you plan on enrolling your student in band in Fall 2024. Chess Tourney - Spring Regional

Back by popular demand! Our regional chess tourneys are fun, competitive and an all around good time. We have a growing number of players from around the region, ready to play in a community of players that love the game and friendships formed. We will award medals and ribbons to grade level and division champions. Check in begins at 8:00 am at Mankato East High School (1900 Hoffman Road in Mankato, MN) First round is at 8:30 am. We will present awards at 11:30 am. Please register in advance so we can prepare the tournament space for a good time. We do not accept walk in registrations as we need to contact contestants if weather or low enrollment influences play. This event is co-sponsored by South Central Service Coop and Mankato Community Education Enrichment + Leisure Program.

Design Your Own T-Shirt!

Have you ever wanted a T-shirt with your very own design on it? Now’s your chance! Students will work to design their own custom T-shirt using digital graphic design tools. A professional screen printing company will turn the design into a real life T-shirt and ship it to your house! Experienced instructors will teach students how to run the software and guide them as they turn their visions into a reality! No prior experience needed! The address of the person enrolling students will be used to mail the finished T-shirt, be sure your address is up to date! This camp is presented by COR Robotics. The mission of COR Robotics is to inspire a passion for robotics in students, with the hope that the student will participate in their local FIRST programs, and further develop a passion for STEM fields/robotics.

Disney's The Little Mermaid Jr. Jr / Sr High (Musical) Play Residency & Performance Ages 11-16 Directed By Paul Christianson 2 week residency 9:00 AM - 3:00 PM (Daily) No program on Juneteenth (June 19) "Disney's The Little Mermaid Jr. Jr / Sr High (Musical) Play Residency & Performance Youth cast in this show will participate in all aspects of play production from acting to set creation, costume and makeup design. This drama experience is more consistent with the experience a young actor would encounter in future high school or community plays. Rehearsals - Mankato West HS Auditorium (Stage) - 9:00 am - 3:00 pm (daily) Show Dates: Friday, June 21 & Saturday, June 22 at 7:00 pm. Tickets go on sale at the door, 1 hour before each performance. This activity is made possible in part by a grant from the Prairie Lakes Regional Arts Council with funds appropriated by the Minnesota State Legislature from its general fund.

Drone Racing Camp

Students will learn how to fly like the pros in the Drone Racing League by training on a flight simulator. After learning drone safety and maintenance, students will take a drone to the skies and compete in numerous races and challenges. Led by experienced instructors, students will leave camp with the skills and knowledge to pilot drones and keep them running. The drones used in camps have cameras, and are perfect for entry level pilots. No prior experience needed! This camp has two cost options: $110 - Instruction and a drone to use while in camp $170 - Instruction and you can bring home your drone to own after camp is complete This camp is presented by COR Robotics. The mission of COR Robotics is to inspire a passion for robotics in students, with the hope that the student will participate in their local FIRST programs, and further develop a passion for STEM fields/robotics.

Home Alone Safety (Parent & Child Class)

HOME ALONE SAFETY Melanie Schmidt (Instructor) Grades 2-6 & parent (or adult guardian) 1 Session Staying home alone for the first time is an opportunity eagerly anticipated by most kids; but with opportunity comes responsibility. This course covers a variety of common scenarios and topics specific to youth preparing to stay home alone or stay home with younger siblings. Topics include, but are not limited to: sibling conflict, stranger danger, healthy choices, problem solving, and identifying emergencies. Each child is encouraged to attend with 1 adult.

Do you feed your pet the best food? How do you know? What are some ways to restrain my pet if they get hurt? Pets are a major component of most families in our community and across the country. The pet industry is a $72 billion industry in the United States and offers a variety of careers from a veterinarian to a nutritionist, breeder, or care giver. In this course, we will learn some basic hands-on animal restraints, health care procedures (vaccinations, sutures, and nail trimming), and some basics about animal nutrition and diets. Instructor bio: Robin Tidd is one of the Agriculture, Food, and Natural Resource teachers at Mankato Area Public Schools. She received her degree in Agriculture Education from the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities. At Mankato Area Public Schools she teaches courses relating to animal science, plant science, food science and natural resources.
