Intro To Guitar Lessons (Youth)

Minnesota State Arts Board -
Summer 2024

This course is three sessions of group guitar lessons. It will cover lessons in chords, tablature, and general maintenance of your guitar, including some method + theory. It is intended for beginners with no prior music experience required.

You must provide your own electric or acoustic guitar, no amplifiers needed or allowed in class. There are multiple instrument rental organizations in the Mankato area, if you don't own a guitar or don't have someone to borrow from.

This course will work to help holistically initiate beginners who want to take on the hobby of learning to play the guitar. The course will also cover fun varieties of topics like style differences between genres, the differences between types of guitars, tuning types, the functions of different styles of guitar throughout the ages. After the basics have been covered, students will work both as a whole group and in assigned pairs to break down and explore the fun aspects of working together to make rhythms, "Jam Etiquette" or good ways to respectfully play with other musicians, and trading off roles when it comes to soloing, jamming, and understanding ones responsibilities in the balance of band-work.
