April is National Poetry Month. To celebrate, Middle School After School has a “mini club” to give you and a group of friends the chance to create a poetry performance, using a variety of artistic formats, including but not limited to: music, projection, graphics, spoken word, & song lyrics (original and published).
How does it work? Pretty easy! Just sign up! While you will have the option to work independently on your own performance (showcase), or you may want to “team up” with a small group of friends 2-4 to “collaborate” on a performance showcase. In a team setting, you can work on a strength (writing poetry / lyrics, speaking / singing, or visual effects). At the close of this 2 week camp, we will have a showcase for friends or family you invite. After all, art is best shared!
This is a NEW opportunity, made possible by a grant from the South Central Service Cooperative and Minnesota State Arts Board. The artistic guidance of this club will be provided by artists from the Southern Minnesota School Of Music who have professional expertise in songwriting, music therapy, creative writing, and instrumental music. This is a club that is the first of its kind in Middle School After School, but one we hope will catch on and be made an opportunity that carries into the future.
Scholarships available for students in need. Cost is $25 for the 6 sessions. Showcase event is the last 30-45 minutes of the final class.
Bring to club: any poetry, writing or song lyrics you enjoy or have written, your chromebook, and imagination. Space is limited. Sign up!
