INTRODUCTION TO SOCIAL JUSTICE THEATERTheaterINTRODUCTION TO SOCIAL JUSTICE THEATRE FOR YOUTH Wilbur Neushwander- Frink 5 Sessions - Grades 5-8 Do you love theatre and have a heart for social justice? If you do, then this is the camp for you! This camp is for students who want to learn how to use the arts and theatre to highlight social justice issues, such as environment, inclusion, bullying and so much more. Together, we will brainstorm social justice themes and learn the process of writing dramatic monologues that we will combine with hand made, artistic masks and props. If you are passionate about social justice, enjoy writing, performing and the collaborative process of combining ideas to one unified theme, this camp is for you. Everyone will have a voice and their ideas heard. This theater opportunity will culminate in a performance for family & friends. This camp is made possible through generous grant support from Prairie Lakes Regional Arts Council.Summer 2022

MOANA JR / SR HIGH SUMMER PLAY AT MANKATO WEST HIGH SCHOOLTheaterMOANA JR Ages 11-16 Directed By Paul Christianson 2 week residency 9:00 AM - 3:00 PM (Daily) This thrilling and heartwarming coming-of-age story follows the strong-willed Moana as she sets sail across the Pacific to save her village and discover the truth about her heritage. Moana and the legendary demigod Maui embark on an epic journey of self-discovery and camaraderie as both learn to harness the power that lies within. With empowering messages of bravery and selflessness, Moana JR. is sure to bring out the hero within each of us. Youth cast in this show will participate in all aspects of play production from acting to set creation, costume and makeup design. This drama experience is more consistent with the experience a young actor would encounter in future high school or community plays. For youth ages 7-16 Prairie Fire is a 5 day acting / performing residency for youth ages 7-16. The experience begins with an audition on Monday of the camp week. All youth who register are guaranteed an acting role. The audition is a tool to determine the part most suited for the age / experience of the student actor. Youth are cast in both lead and ensemble roles. Prairie Fire Shows are musicals with singing and dancing! The show week schedule is based on the role the actor is cast in. Regular rehearsals for BEAUTY & THE BEAST will run from 12:30 - 4:30 pm at Mankato East Sr High (Auditorium) Monday - (Auditions) Some actors will be dismissed after the audition (auditions last about 2 hours) - your student may call you for pick up after auditions. If your student does not have a phone, one will be provided to make a call. Lead roles will begin rehearsal. If your child needs to stay at school until you can pick up, send a snack and something quiet to work on until an adult can pick up. Rehearsals close daily at 4:30 pm, so parents / guardians should plan their schedule accordingly. Tuesday - A (paper) letter will be sent home with your actor on Monday that explains the Tuesday schedule. With as many as 70-80 youth cast in PF Shows, the Directors teach each "group" or ensemble separately. So a student may be assigned a 1.5 -2 hour window (during the 4 hour rehearsal) on Tuesday as their specific rehearsal time. Again, if your schedule requires that you drop off at 12:30 and pick up at 4:30 pm, please make sure your student comes with something quiet to keep them occupied until their rehearsal. We will also REQUIRE that students remain in the auditorium or on the snack tables outside the auditorium until they are picked up. Wednesday - EVERYONE rehearses for the FULL 4 hours on Wednesday (including TECH Crew). Thursday - EVERYONE rehearses for the FULL 4 hours on Thursday (including TECH Crew) Friday - Report time is still tentative (specific report time will be specified on the Monday rehearsal letter sent home to parents). We anticipate students will report at 1:00 pm for a full dress rehearsal. Show Times - 5:00 & 7:30 pm on Friday of the show week Ticket Prices - $5 per person (children, adults, seniors).
