  • Date Night Series - Mugs & Mocktails

    Join us for two evenings of making clay vessels and craft mocktails for two! This course is open to all, bring your sister, platonic friends, Mom or Dad, any group will enjoy! We will make a set of 6 mugs or cups per couple. This class will help you design, assemble, and glaze a matching set. Non-alcoholic drinks provided.   • Design Your Own T-Shirt!

    Have you ever wanted a T-shirt with your very own design on it? Now’s your chance! Students will work to design their own custom T-shirt using digital graphic design tools. A professional screen printing company will turn the design into a real life T-shirt and ship it to your house! Experienced instructors will teach students how to run the software and guide them as they turn their visions into a reality! No prior experience needed! The address of the person enrolling students will be used to mail the finished T-shirt, be sure your address is up to date! This camp is presented by COR Robotics. The mission of COR Robotics is to inspire a passion for robotics in students, with the hope that the student will participate in their local FIRST programs, and further develop a passion for STEM fields/robotics.

    Disney's The Little Mermaid Jr. Jr / Sr High (Musical) Play Residency & Performance Ages 11-16 Directed By Paul Christianson 2 week residency 9:00 AM - 3:00 PM (Daily) No program on Juneteenth (June 19) "Disney's The Little Mermaid Jr. Jr / Sr High (Musical) Play Residency & Performance Youth cast in this show will participate in all aspects of play production from acting to set creation, costume and makeup design. This drama experience is more consistent with the experience a young actor would encounter in future high school or community plays. Rehearsals - Mankato West HS Auditorium (Stage) - 9:00 am - 3:00 pm (daily) Show Dates: Friday, June 21 & Saturday, June 22 at 7:00 pm. Tickets go on sale at the door, 1 hour before each performance. This activity is made possible in part by a grant from the Prairie Lakes Regional Arts Council with funds appropriated by the Minnesota State Legislature from its general fund.
  • Drone Racing Camp

    Students will learn how to fly like the pros in the Drone Racing League by training on a flight simulator. After learning drone safety and maintenance, students will take a drone to the skies and compete in numerous races and challenges. Led by experienced instructors, students will leave camp with the skills and knowledge to pilot drones and keep them running. The drones used in camps have cameras, and are perfect for entry level pilots. No prior experience needed! This camp has two cost options: $110 - Instruction and a drone to use while in camp $170 - Instruction and you can bring home your drone to own after camp is complete This camp is presented by COR Robotics. The mission of COR Robotics is to inspire a passion for robotics in students, with the hope that the student will participate in their local FIRST programs, and further develop a passion for STEM fields/robotics.
  • Edible + Medicinal Plant Walk

    Plant walks are a great opportunity to become more connected with the plants all around you. These walks are interactive as we explore the plants to get to know them better through sight, touch, smell and taste. You will leave knowing visual identification as well as how to work with the plant and their benefits! This class will be hands-on (and in nature) with the plants themselves. No experience is necessary for this course, all knowledge levels are welcome! This walk will be held at Rasmussen Woods (555 Stoltzman Rd, Mankato, MN 56001). Rain day is set for July 23. We will notify you if course is moved due to weather. Classes are taught by Herbalist and Integrative Nutritionist, Kara Swenson of Thistle Patch Wellness.

    This class will teach the embroidery basics: choosing fabric and stretching it in a hoop, separating floss into fewer strands, threading a needle, transferring patterns to fabric, and learning a few stitches. Participants will be given a hoop, fabric, a needle, several colors of floss, and instruction sheets. At the end of the first class, you'll have the beginnings of a project that you can continue contributing to on your own. Then bring back your project for the second class, in order to learn several more complicated stitches!

  • Everybody Has A Story: Starting Your Memoir

    Many people have experiences that they'd like to share in writing with friends, family, or the public, but they don't know how to begin. In this course, we'll read short excerpts from classic memoirs and do writing exercises in order to help students isolate what stories they want to tell and how they want to tell them. We'll examine ways of organizing memories into a narrative, practice adding lively details, consider whether there are themes that should be highlighted, and noodle around with how to tell the whole truth when you don't know it. Students will end the course with writing that can be shared and with skills to continue writing and sharing. Whether you want to write about life on the old homestead, once-in-a-lifetime travel, military service, youthful hijinks, an admired relative, or a period of loss, this course can help you get started.

  • Future Scarlets Basketball Camp

    The Mankato West girls basketball program is putting on an exciting, new, summer basketball camp for Future Lady Scarlets who are entering grades K-5. Athletes will learn basketball fundamentals such as dribbling, passing, shooting, footwork and play fun games. Whether you have played basketball before or are just giving it a try, this will be a great camp for you! Come give basketball a try and learn from current Scarlet coaches and players!

No computer or internet is needed to complete the lessons. Take your book with you on vacation, to the cabin, or work on it inside on a rainy day! GRASP is a correspondence program designed to reinforce math and reading skills learned during the school year just completed! This workbook program is designed for students who have completed any grade from K–8, to keep their skills current over the summer months. Students complete nine lessons in math, reading, or both over the summer. Each lesson takes about one hour to complete. The lessons are mailed in by the parent, scored by the GRASP company located in Grand Rapids Michigan, results recorded and earned awards sent to the children in September. Books will be available for students to pick up (locally) at Lincoln Community Center (110 Fulton Street) Books are ordered after registration closes on June 12. Once the books arrive in Mankato, families will be advised of pick up hours and special instructions for completing the lessons.     This program is designed specifically for girls to enhance the overall athleticism of those who participate. Focus will be placed on developing maximum speed and functional strength through sprint training, plyometric training, and strength training. Participants will be able to track their own progress throughout the program.

    HOME ALONE SAFETY Melanie Schmidt (Instructor) Grades 2-6 & parent (or adult guardian) 1 Session Staying home alone for the first time is an opportunity eagerly anticipated by most kids; but with opportunity comes responsibility. This course covers a variety of common scenarios and topics specific to youth preparing to stay home alone or stay home with younger siblings. Topics include, but are not limited to: sibling conflict, stranger danger, healthy choices, problem solving, and identifying emergencies. Each child is encouraged to attend with 1 adult.

  • How to Draw Anime (Basics)

    A beginners course for those interested in learning how to draw characters and animals/monsters in the style of Japanese cartoons otherwise known as anime. The course objective would be to teach basic proportions and styles that go into creating these characters so that a person may be able to replicate similar styles seen in shows like One Piece, Pokemon, Dragonball, etc... By the end of the course, participants should have enough of an understanding to be able to create their own original character in a generalized anime style!
  • Intermediate Archery

    Grades 4-8 A fun way for girls and boys to get involved in something new! Our program utilizes that NASP curriculum and equipment and will teach the basics of using a compound bow. Classes are taught by a certified NASP instructor, an provide a safe and fun introduction to the sport of archery. Commands, signals, techniques and shooting challenges are all part of the program. Learn about equipment and participate in a low-pressure and supportive environment! All equipment is provided. Must have completed Beginning Archery Class.

    This course is three sessions of group guitar lessons. It will cover lessons in chords, tablature, and general maintenance of your guitar, including some method + theory. It is intended for beginners with no prior music experience required. You must provide your own electric or acoustic guitar, no amplifiers needed or allowed in class. There are multiple instrument rental organizations in the Mankato area, if you don't own a guitar or don't have someone to borrow from. This course will work to help holistically initiate beginners who want to take on the hobby of learning to play the guitar. The course will also cover fun varieties of topics like style differences between genres, the differences between types of guitars, tuning types, the functions of different styles of guitar throughout the ages. After the basics have been covered,students will work both as a whole group and in assigned pairs to break down and explore the fun aspects of working together to make rhythms, "Jam Etiquette" or good ways to respectfully play with other musicians, and trading off roles when it comes to soloing, jamming, and understanding ones responsibilities in the balance of band-work.

The pet industry is a $72 billion industry in the United States and offers a variety of careers from a veterinarian to a nutritionist, breeder, or care giver. In this course, we will learn some basic hands-on animal restraints, health care procedures (vaccinations, sutures, and nail trimming), and some basics about animal nutrition and diets. Instructor bio: Robin Tidd is one of the Agriculture, Food, and Natural Resource teachers at Mankato Area Public Schools. She received her degree in Agriculture Education from the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities. At Mankato Area Public Schools she teaches courses relating to animal science, plant science, food science and natural resources.

  • Intro to Tap Dance (Youth)

    Introduction to Tap Dance is for students ages 9-13 who would like to explore tap dance in a low-key and fun environment. You will learn basic techniques and explore rhythms and music through tap dance. Try a American dance form grounded in musicality and rhythm. Think of this class as drumming, but with your feet. Students will learn a warm up, practice short exercises to help them learn basic steps, and will also learn a short combination to music. They will also get the chance to explore tap dance through improvising, or making up their own rhythms, to music. The class will be focused on having fun and connecting to fellow classmates through dancing together. Tap shoes will not be worn, wear comfortable shoes and clothes, and bring a bottle of water.
